New Hall of Famer King: Knicks could put Heat on Miami

Bernard King, on the day he was officially named a Hall of Fame inductee, said the matchups may favor the Knicks in an Eastern Conference showdown against Miami and he has never seen Carmelo Anthony not do well against LeBron James.

“I certainly think that they have a chance to beat any team they face, whether it’s Miami or whatever,’’ King said yesterday. “The Knicks are a very deep team. They have a tremendous bench, and obviously in terms of their 3-point shooting, that puts tremendous pressure on the defense. It spreads the floor, and it allows [Tyson] Chandler to roll to the basket to get easy buckets around the hoop. I like their style of play, and I like the defense that they’re playing.’’

The Knicks have taken three of four from Miami this season.

“It’s all about matchups,’’ King said. “I think they match up well. That’s what it’s all about is matchups — not your record. When I was with the Knicks, we played Detroit in the first round, we weren’t supposed to win, we beat them, we faced the Celtics, they had four Hall of Famers. We weren’t supposed to be in that series. We took them [to] seven games. I think the Knicks match up well against the Heat, and I think the Heat know that. Obviously the Knicks are going to have to play at their highest level to beat them. Are they capable? Yes.”

“I do say I’ve never seen LeBron outplay Carmelo,” King added.

Asked by The Post to elaborate, King said: “Now you can obviously go back into your records and find games where you can come back and dispute that — well I’m not looking at records. I’m just going based on my recollection of what I’ve seen. That’s what I can go on.”

* Anthony won Eastern Conference Player of the Week for his four-game explosions in which he averaged 41.8 points per game on 61 percent shooting. It marked the first time two Knicks players have won the award back-to-back with J.R. Smith taking last week’s award.

Anthony scored 50, 40, 41 and 36 points in the four wins and tied King’s franchise record of three straight 40-plus-point games. Smith is averaging 23.8 points during the Knicks’ 12-game win streak, giving them the league’s best 1-2 punch.

* Kenyon Martin (knee soreness) could return today, but with Chandler (neck) back to his old self and rookie Chris Copeland thriving, coach Mike Woodson isn’t too worried. Copeland scored 13 first-half points in Oklahoma City and also bothered Kevin Durant. “If Chris plays like he played [Sunday], he can be that other big,’’ Woodson said. With Martin and Copeland, the Knicks would form a 10-man rotation and make the possible returns of injured big men Rasheed Wallace, Amar’e Stoudemire, Marcus Camby and Kurt Thomas not as vital.
