Ancient Egypt’s King Tut will rise again on Spike TV

Spike TV — the network of “Ink Master” and “Bar Rescue” — is getting into the scripted genre with a miniseries about King Tut.

The network has greenlit a six-hour series based on the life of the Egyptian pharaoh called “Tut,” which will premiere next year.

“Tut” tells the story of the legendary King Tutankhamun, who ruled Egypt from 1332 BC to 1323 BC. The series follows the youngest-ever Egyptian pharaoh’s rise to power and struggle to lead his country to glory while his closest advisors, friends and lovers scheme for their own underhanded interests.

The project will mark Spike TV’s first scripted mini-series in eight years, since 2007’s “The Kill Point.” It is set to begin filming this fall in Morocco and Canada.

Muse Entertainment (“The Kennedys”) is producing.
