This week’s couple: No reservations

Reservations are highly recommended. George, 30, and Becca, 32, almost learned this lesson the hard way when they met for their blind date at Antica Pesa in Williamsburg and their names weren’t on the list. In the end, they were able to get a table for two, but did the minor mishap bring them closer together or hurt their chances at taking down each other’s details for a future date?

She said:

When I arrived, I saw George explaining to the hostess who we were and why we were there. She seemed perplexed, so I interjected, and introduced myself to him. It was an easy way to meet.

We were led to a table, and from there conversation between George and I was easy. He was outgoing and friendly — we were well-matched in that way. I’m a little goofy, and I imagine I made some weird faces, but George rolled with it.

The appetizers and tiramisu at Antica Pesa were tasty. I don’t go to Italian restaurants often, but I would return here.

George’s jokes seemed like he’d delivered them before, but it wasn’t a big deal. I didn’t feel an initial spark with George, but he is nice, cute, and has potential as someone worth getting to know better.

He said:

Becca had good energy, but there was an immediate shared awkwardness when we arrived. Antica Pesa didn’t have our reservation, so having to explain what we were doing there was weird.

Once we cleared things up, Becca and I were able to get to know one another. We’re both gregarious people, so conversation came easy, but it felt like an interview. I appreciated things like her being close to her sister, as I am best friends with mine, but it didn’t spark any romantic chemistry.

Despite the weirdness up-front, Antica Pesa treated us great. They were very attentive throughout the night.

I exchanged numbers with Becca. If we hang out again, it might not be a date, but it could be a friendly boozy brunch or party.
