A Long Island couple is suing their former veterinarian for $350,000, claiming he killed their beloved yellow Lab by giving him a drug with a possible deadly side effect — without warning them of the danger.
Dog owners Mary Kate and James Tischler of Seaford say the state should now pass a law requiring vets to warn pet owners of potentially fatal side effects.
Mary Kate Tischler said the couple’s dog, Buoy, suffered a knee injury and required non-life-threatening surgery by Dr. Gregory Herndon in January.
Their lawyer, Andrew Siben, said Herndon prescribed the anti-inflammatory drug Rimadyl, which carries a warning of potentially deadly side effects. The couple alleged they were never told of the risk.
The 3-year-old pooch stopped eating and was euthanized March 2.
Herndon could not be reached for comment.
