‘Murder, She Wrote’ again

Add another one to the NBC reboot list.

The network is prepping a remake of the long-running CBS drama “Murder, She Wrote” with “The Help” star Octavia Spencer, according to reports.

Spencer will step into the lead role played by Angela Lansbury in the original series, which aired from 1984 to 1996 (and spawned four TV movies). Set in present-day, the re-imagined procedural would star Spencer as a self-published mystery novelist and amateur sleuth whose fascination with true crime stories leads to her investigating cases.

It would be the first regular TV series role for Spencer, who won a supporting actress Oscar for 2011’s “The Help.”

“Murder” is the latest reboot in the works at NBC, which is also developing a sequel to “Remington Steele” and previously attempted remakes of “Knight Rider,” “Prime Suspect” and “Ironside,” which was canceled last week.
