Even though the title of WE’s new reality show, “Pregnant & Dating,” sounds like “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” redux — it’s anything but, as opposed to anything butt.

For one thing, the pregnant women here are actually real humans, as opposed to plasticized robots controlled by a momster programmer.

You’ll also be happy to know that “Pregnant & Dating” is not a series about pregnant teens, but is a series about real-life grown women—some of whom are in their 40s and pregnant for the first time.

That’s not to say that the series doesn’t stoop to the repulsive, over-done, hands-on-hips, boobs-out poses a la “The Real Housewives,” because it does — and that’s when they lose me completely. Too bad about that because it’s just lazy.

But when the producers allow the women to be real, I’m surprised to say that I’m really there.

The pregnant ladies include Keisha, 33, formerly of the pop group, “Xscape” who is now a music producer for some big names. She’s just moved into a big house with her best friend (a man who isn’t the baby’s father), who doesn’t know yet that she’s pregnant. But it turns out that he’s got a giant surprise for her, too.

Megan is a 28-year old Gel Nail educator (don’t ask) and a high-end manicurist. Megan is a sweet woman who has been deeply wounded by her relationship with Tony, the man who fathered her child. He drinks, he seduces and abandons and when he found out she was pregnant, he wanted her to have an abortion.

Melissa is a 43-year-old celebrity stylist who thought she’d never get pregnant, after even artificial insemination was unsuccessful. Then, one day, she learned she was pregnant by her boyfriend of three years, who moved out of town when he found out the good news — with his new lover.

Shana, 33, is a two-time Miss Hawaiian Tropic winner and the least interesting of the group. She’s a model who is not happy to have been forced to become a maternity model. We don’t find anything out about the baby daddy, but we really don’t care that much, anyway.

Finally, there’s Rachel, a 43-year-old sports producer who’s having twins. When she told her boyfriend the great news, he split faster than Chris Christie’s old pants.

These are all good women who have great moms and will make great moms — but are in the gray area of being pregnant, single, hopeful but lonely.

Yes, we’re being played — but it’s better than being played by a Kardashian who is not above getting married or pregnant just to keep her idiotic series going.
