#sharknado rules Twitter as campy shark thriller starring ex-‘90210’ star becomes viral hit

Campy shark movie thriller “Sharknado” exploded into an insane pop culture phenomena last night — raking in Twitter numbers about a fourth of the Super Bowl.

The unexpected hit — which featured mostly has-been actors and an unbeatable plotline — garnered 5,000 tweets per minute as fans aired their excitement after the flick ended at 11 p.m.

The SyFy made-for-TV flick, which featured Ian Ziering of “Beverly Hills 90210,” and Tara Reid of “American Pie,” centers on a dramatic storm that spews a whirling tornado of sharks into a California town.

Fans gushed via #sharknado they were utterly hooked.

“We are SO fortunate to have this blessing to keep us entertained in between basketball and football season!” Hookjaw Rox tweeted.

Others made jokes about the drama.

“Al Gore warned us about the #sharknado but you laughed at him!” fan Raven Brooks wrote, joking about the flood waters.

The flick even earned a shout-out from unexpected fan Mia Farrow, who watched it with Philip Roth.

‘We’re watching Shark Nado,” she wrote. “OMG OMG.”

She then added, “Tomorrow I’ll pick up a chainsaw” — a reference to the flick’s dramatic ending.

Tweets peaked at about 80 tweets per second at 10:58 p.m.
