Child, 7, tumbles six stories and lives — but there are signs of abuse, drugs

A 7-year-old girl miraculously survived a 6-story fall from the window of a Brooklyn housing project, authorities said.

The child, who lives in Florida, was visiting relatives at the Gravesend Houses in Coney Island when she plunged out of a bedroom window Wednesday at 7:45 p.m., cops said.

She was found unconscious with a shattered pelvis, punctured lungs, swelling to the brain and bruises to her arms and legs, police sources said.

Investigators soon realized some of the bruises on her arms and legs were a result of physical abuse, the sources said. It appears she was struck with a belt, one source said.

In addition to the physical abuse, sources said the little girl had traces of heroin and methadone in her system.

The girl was staying with her 19-year-old step mother, a great grandmother and step aunt who live in the apartment, law enforcement sources said.

Cops were at the apartment earlier that same evening after the young girl was reported missing by a family member, cops said.

A pediatrician is also investigating whether or not she had been sexually abused, the sources said.

The child is in critical but stable condition at Lutheran Medical Center, cops said.
