Drama Mama

Your weekly guide to TV’s best and worst one-hour shows

Comic-Con starts today. In its honor, Mama checks out TV shows with geek chic:

“Blast Vegas” (Thursday, 9 p.m., Syfy)

We don’t even need to get into the details of this movie — do you really need an explanation of the plot for a movie that a co-worker so astutely pointed out only works if the title is “Blah-st Vegas?” And while it lacks the instant-classic title of “Sharknado,” the cheesetastic flick stars Frankie Muniz and Barry Bostwick, who all good B-horror movie buffs recognize as the a-hole Brad from “Rocky Horror.” The movie is part of numerous marathons that Syfy used to fill the airwaves this weekend, as any self-respecting geek is attending that “Walking Dead” Q&A instead of sitting in front of the TV.

“Wilfred” (Thursday, 10 p.m., FX)

The trippy comedy about a man who sees a dog as a man is back again just in time for this year’s Comic-Con. That probably has more to do with Elijah Wood’s other credits (he of “The Hobbit”), as it does with the cast of “How I Met Your Mother” getting into the show this year because of nerds’ long love affair with the actors’ resumes (which include “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”). This week, the pathetic Ryan (Wood) falls for demon doggy Wilfred’s (Jason Gann) ploy to get a birthday gift for Ryan’s unrequited crush, Jenna (Fiona Gubelmann).

“Falling Skies” (Sunday, 10 p.m., TNT)

For the tin-foil set, there’s the alien invasion we all know is inevitable. Last week provided us the confirmation that the holy mole is Dr. Lourdes Delgado (Seychelle Gabrielle), who killed the president in what seemed like an overly complicated plan to shoot him through the floor of his hospital room. Out on the road, Tom (Noah Wyle) must have escaped that alien attack he was trapped in at the end of the last episode, as he is on his way back to Charleston this week.

“King & Maxwell”(Monday, 10 p.m., TNT)

This “Moonlighting” redux has already had a series of guest stars pass through, but this week they snagged fan fave Christian Kane, aka “Angel’s” nemesis Lindsey, who arrives to cure that Comic-Con hangover. Here, he plays Michelle’s (Rebecca Romijn) brother who conveniently needs someone investigated. — Tiffany Wendeln Connors
