The forecast is in — a Sharknado will be hitting the Big Apple.
The Syfy channel yesterday announced plans to film a sequel to the made-for-TV movie sensation “Sharknado” — this time set in New York City — after the unexpected hit made a huge splash on social media.
“Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm — on television,” said Thomas Vitale, Syfy’s vice president of programming.
He said the channel rushed to green-light a sequel, scheduled to air in July 2014, because diehard viewers of the campy thriller demanded it.
“The fans are clamoring for a sequel . . . We didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean fun, next year,” he said.
Screenwriter Thunder Levin has plenty of ideas for the sequel.
“I grew up in the Financial District, so I could have a lot of fun with this,” he said.
“I could see sharks in the subway!”
A spokesperson for Syfy said it’s too early to tell who will act in “Sharknado 2,” but sources close to the project noted that Ian Ziering and Tara Reid would likely reprise their roles from the original.
The so-bad-it’s-good natural-disaster flick, about a tornado of killer sharks that strikes LA, will rerun on the Syfy Channel tonight at 7 p.m.
