L’Wren Scott created at the ‘height’ of fashion

L’Wren Scott was 6-feet tall by age 12, so making her own clothes became a necessity.

She’d hunt for bargains at thrift shops in tiny Roy, Utah, where she was adopted and raised by Mormon parents as Laura “Luann” Bambrough, then haul the ill-fitting goods home to rework them.

The skills she honed made her a supremely talented fashion designer and stylist.

Statuesque and sexy in her signature wine lipstick, Scott garnered legions of fashionista fans with her body-hugging clothes — and even landed a mega-famous boyfriend, Mick Jagger.

Her art was simple: Perfectly tailored clothing featuring nipped waists, flattering hemlines and just the right amount of curve, all in a range of luxurious fabrics and catchy colors.

Her figure-flattering dresses were exactingly tailored to cut a bombshell figure — she was “obsessed” with the idea of a powerful silhouette, she once told Harper’s Bazaar.

It was this eye for precision that earned the 49-year-old designer a Hollywood who’s who client list that included Madonna, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker and Penelope Cruz.

Her most famous design was nicknamed the Headmistress for its haughty, almost austere sensibility.

Scott faithfully recreated the look every season since debuting her line in London in 2006.

Sometimes, it came with a staid collar, sometimes with modest three-quarter-length sleeves.

But always, there were equal parts of cheek and class, too.

Madonna, Kidman and Jennifer Lopez were just a few of the stars who couldn’t get enough of the look.

Scott posed for The Post’s Alexa fashion supplement last December in one of her Headmistress renditions. It was all black and trimmed in gold — and looked majestic on her 6-foot-3 frame.

During the Alexa interview, she talked about her collaboration with Banana Republic. At the time, she was enthusiastically looking forward to the holidays so she could spend time with her family — Jagger, his children, his grandchildren and her own relatives — saying she had designed the offshoot line with gifts for her loved ones in mind.

“I always have time to have all my family over, and my friends,” Scott said.

As for her work with the retail chain, “I have memories of growing up in Utah and saving my money to shop there,’’ she said. “I also knew that they would deliver the quality — they would have the same aspirations that I wanted to have.”

She was even creative in how she presented her clothes on the runway.

Scott used art and food as scenery at her consistently well-attended, well-reviewed fashion shows, with the events often taking the form of luncheons.

She couldn’t have been more gracious to attendees. She always tried to make sure that every buyer, critic and guest had a seat.

Jagger was always a proud and preening presence at many of his gal pal’s shows.
