5 questions Letterman should ask Stephen Colbert

David Letterman will welcome his successor, Stephen Colbert, as a guest on Tuesday night’s “Late Show” (11:35 p.m. on CBS).

Colbert will replace Letterman on the “Late Show” next year when Dave retires after hosting his CBS late-night showcase since 1993. Dave hasn’t announced a date (yet) for his final show, but is expected to remain on the “Late Show” through next May.

Here are five questions that Letterman should be asking Colbert on Tuesday night’s show:

1. Who do you think should replace you on Comedy Central?

2. You’ve been playing a character on “The Colbert Report” for nine years now, but you’ll play yourself when you take over for me. What is the real Stephen Colbert like?

3. What will you miss most about playing your GOP-pundit character?

4. Will you have a sidekick and a band on the “Late Show”? If so, who would your dream choices be for both?

5. Will you keep the show in New York?
