NBC on board for Branson’s first blastoff

The “Today” show will cover history’s first-ever commercial space flight.

That would be the Virgin Galactic flight carrying owner Sir Richard Branson and his two kids into space, part of NBC’s space travel reality series produced by “Survivor” guru Mark Burnett.

There’s no set date for the flight, which will air as a three-hour event live on “Today” and will be hosted by Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie.

In case you don’t get the memo, it will also air on NBC sister networks CNBC, MSNBC, Syfy and The Weather Channel (as well as online).

The news was announced on Friday’s “Today” show, which also noted the coverage will include a prime-time special airing the night before Branson and company’s journey into the great beyond.
