‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ becoming a series

Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez will remake his cult movie classic, “From Dusk Till Dawn,” for his new cable network, El Rey.

The English-language network, targeting Latino viewers, will launch next month on cable systems around the country. It’s partly owned by Univision, which has a deal with Time Warner Cable in New York.

“From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series,” expected to premiere in the spring, will encompass 10 hour-long episodes and will be directed and executive-produced by Rodriguez.

The 1996 movie — which Rodriguez created with Quentin Tarantino — helped launch George Clooney into the big-screen stratosphere.

DJ Cotrona will star in the supernatural crime series as Seth Gecko (the role played by Clooney in the movie), with co-stars including Zane Holtz, Jessie Garcia and “Django Unchained” star Don Johnson in a recurring role as Sheriff Earl McGraw.

“If the movie’s the short story, the series is the novel,” Rodriguez said in a statement.
