Teacher suffering after suicide of student, husband says

The Harlem high-school teacher who scolded a bright but troubled teen for cheating — leading the girl to throw herself in the Hudson River — has been in anguish since learning of the suicide, her husband said Sunday.

“She’s suffering,” said George Malik, husband of Eva Malikova, a German-language teacher at the HS for Math, Science and Engineering.

Malik said his wife was still holding out hope that Omotayo Adeoye, 17, survived her plunge into the treacherous waters Friday.

“They haven’t found the body yet. It’s an open investigation. Maybe she could still be alive,” he said.

The Bronx teen had jumped into the river in Washington Heights less than two hours after Malikova had caught her peeking at her cellphone during a German exam.

She wrote a suicide note right on the test and left class, asking to use the bathroom.

About 25 relatives and friends of the honor student mourned at her Mott Haven apartment on Sunday, weeping and singing.

“We don’t know what is going on,” said her father, who declined to give his name. “The child went to school, and we never saw her again. We need to hear the 911 call, and no one is telling us much.”

Sources told The Post that Adeoye had been hospitalized in January 2013 after running away and talking of suicide. In that incident, she was found at the same spot where she jumped in last week.
