Jeter catching up to A-Rod in one crucial category

Derek Jeter started the bottom of the fifth with a dribbler that he beat out for a single and after advancing to second on a wild pitch, he moved to third on Jacoby Ellsbury’s grounder to short. Mark Teixeira then singled him in during Tuesday’s 3-1 win over the Blue Jays.

If it seems Jeter has played out that scenario about 1,900 times in the shortstop’s long career, that’s because he has — in some form or another — as Jeter became the 11th player in major league history to score 1,900 runs in a career.

Next on the all-time list is Alex Rodriguez, who has scored 1,919 runs. Also within range this season is Stan Musial, who ranks ninth with 1,949.

Jeter had another multi-hit game, his fifth in his last seven games.
