Would-be toll beater busted by Port Authority

A would-be toll beater was busted after Port Authority cops noticed he tampered with his tractor trailer’s license plates in an attempt to avoid paying the $60 toll at the George Washington Bridge, authorities said.

Florida based trucker Garfield Ronald Brown, 46, apparently removed the front license plate and bent up the rear license plate of his Kenworth 18-wheeler so they could not be read by EZ Pass cameras at the toll booth around 8 a.m. Sunday, a Port Authority spokesman said.

Port Authority cops quickly noticed the scofflaw’s lame attempt to get out of paying the toll and stopped him before he could cross into Manhattan.

Brown was charged with theft of services and tampering with public records, Port Authority cops said.
