Meg Ryan will return to TV after nearly 30 years

Meg Ryan is returning to the small screen, signing on to star in her first regular TV role in almost 30 years.

Hollywood Reporter has reported the “Sleepless in Seattle” star will executive produce and star in an NBC pilot revolving around a former hotshot New York editor.

After a lengthy absence from TV and speculation she’d retired from acting, the 51-year-old will return to prime time as a newly-single mother named Rose.

“Family Ties” Emmy nominee Marc Lawrence will write the half-hour single-camera comedy sitcom, while Ryan will executive produce with manager Jane Berliner for Universal Television and Lawrence’s Reserve Room Productions.

The “When Harry Met Sally” star will play a sunny, devoted and non-confrontational mom who returns to a publishing house where she was once a brilliant editor to work for her 30-year-old neurotic former intern, Brenda.

Once described as America’s sweetheart, Ryan got her first big break in the 1982 soap opera “As the World Turns.”

After a few minor roles in film and television, Ryan received her first starring role for the small screen with a turn in 1985’s Wildside.

She’s best known for her series of successful romantic comedies during the 1980s and 1990s, and was last seen on the big screen in 2009’s “Serious Moonlight.”
