Knicks get revenge on Celtics in Garden rout

Now that was Super. Super Revenge.

Carmelo Anthony had said the Knicks were out to “redeem themselves’’ after a 41-point Garden humiliation at the hands of the Celtics on Dec. 8 and they did so in style.

The Knicks crushed Boston from start to finish in a 114-88 Garden rout. The Knicks (18-27) moved one-half game out of the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot. It was a 67-point reversal from that game against Boston, which Anthony had said left “a bitter taste’’ in his mouth.

“Today’s game, in part, was kind of personal,’’ Kenyon Martin said. “The way they beat us last time [here], we wanted a little getback.’’

The Knicks won their third straight game to move to 3-3 on this eight-game homestand that concludes with matches against Cleveland and Miami. The Super Bowl Week victory came before Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and a slew of Broncos receivers, including Wes Welker and Demaryius Thomas.

After racking up 62 and 35 points in the previous two games, Anthony finished with 24 points in 28 minutes. He departed the rout with 1:45 left in the third quarter after heating up from mid-range, going 8 of 15 from the field and 5 of 7 from the free-throw line. He looked like he wanted to stay in, chatting with coach Mike Woodson when he came out.

The Knicks started out 0-3 on the homestand with losses to the Clippers, Nets and Sixers and then Andrea Bargnani got hurt, tearing a ligament in his elbow. The Knicks are now 3-0 without Bargnani and their offense has been rejuvenated, scoring 125, 110 and 110 points. Bargnani hadn’t missed a game before his injury. The Knicks have gone to smallball with Anthony back at power forward in a two point-guard alignment.

“We’re definitely stepping up to the challenge and it makes the offense flow,’’ Anthony said. “Everyone’s feeling like themselves once again.’’

Anthony should reach a new milestone in the next game Thursday against the Cavaliers. He’s currently 15 shy of 19,000 career points and will become the 50th player to accomplish the feat.

Without referring to the 7-foot Bargnani, Woodson said “guys are more committed’’ and added, “We’re back to playing small ball again. The ball’s moving, guys are shooting threes and feeling good about themselves. It’s kind of nice to see.’’

There were six double-figure scorers. Tyson Chandler scored 12 points with 11 rebounds and Raymond Felton chipped in with eight assists. J.R. Smith and rookie Tim Hardaway Jr. added 17 and 16 points, respectively and impressive young big man Jeremy Tyler scored 17 on 6 of 8 shooting.

“My focus is a little bit more knowing we have less guys on the roster,’’ Anthony said. “Guys are hurt sometimes. You have to take on a different role due to different circumstances.’’

The down moments were, of course, injuries. Martin, making his return from a 12-day absence, aggravated his chronic ankle injury, landing funny, and left hobbling for the locker room late in the second period but should be OK.

Guard Iman Shumpert may be out for a few games. He sprained his right shoulder late in the first quarter and didn’t return. Woodson said he’s unsure of a timetable for his return.

In the new year, the Knicks’ record moved to 9-4. The Celtics, who are apparently focused on June’s draft, have lost 18 of 21 games.

Knicks center Tyson Chandler said the club had some meetings after its recent five-game losing streak.

“We had a couple of meetings and realized we love this game and we got to basics and are having fun again,’’ Chandler said.

The Knicks took a 21-5 lead after eight minutes boosted by a 15-0 run and cruised to a 63-57 halftime lead. Anthony was outscoring Boston, 8-5, just 7:30 into contest and finished the first half with 17 points. The Knicks led 31-15 after one period.

After the Celtics tried to make a game of it, cutting the deficit to 45-31, Tim Hardaway Jr. banged in two straight 3-point shots to increase the lead to 20 points.
