A self-proclaimed “black Hitler” was indicted Thursday for beating up an alleged hooker and for pimping out five women on Backpage.com, prosecutors announced in Manhattan Criminal Court.
Sherman Gamble, 54, of Manhattan, thought he was a free man last week — at least temporarily — when he posted $80,000 bail Friday on attempted murder, kidnapping, assault and strangulation charges.
But cops immediately rearrested him on a single count of promoting prostitution for pimping five women out on several web sites used by hookers and pimps, according to a new criminal complaint.
Gamble was initially collared last week after an alleged hooker who lived in his apartment claimed he beat her, pulled her hair, choked her and shoved a newspaper down her throat after holding her captive for several days.
“I am going to kill you,” bellowed the one-man Gestapo during the beatings, claimed the hooker, who originally told cops she was Gamble’s grandson’s nanny. “You don’t know who I am. I am the black Hitler!”
The woman eventually escaped after telling Gamble that she needed to go to a bank.
She was treated at Beth Israel Hospital for bruising, swelling and pain, sources said.
But Gamble’s lawyer insisted the hooker made up the “black Hitler” charge and that the brusing on her face was inflicted by a john.
She trumped up the accusations against Gamble because he threatened to out her to her parents in a bid to get her to quit the business.
“This is a calculating prostitute who is clever enough to arouse public and law enforcement suspicion against Gamble by referring to him as the black Hitler,” said defense lawyer Norman Steiner.
“That’s just as calculating as making up these other charges against him. He’s a hard working devoted father who is trying to help this girl. She has been telling her parents that she’s a nanny.“
The 22-year-old woman is also facing a grand larceny rap for allegedly stealing a ring and bracelet valued at more than $12,000 from a john on 10th Avenue on Feb. 22nd, according to sources and the criminal complaint against her.
Gamble has prior busts for assaulting his own child, patronizing a hooker, and illegally subletting a Section 8 residence he advertised on Craigslist for $850 a month for seven years.
His daughter, actress Torri Gamble, showed up in Manhattan Criminal Court to support her father Thursday.
“My father is one of the good guys,” she said. “Some people get the best of you and put you in a really horrible predicament.”
