‘True Detective’ finale crashes HBO stream site

Passionate viewers of “True Detective” crashed the HBOGo streaming site Sunday night for the series’ first-season finale and the proof was in the ratings: 3.5 million tuned in, making the Matthew McConaughey-Woody Harrelson crime drama the most successful show launch since “Six Feet Under,” according to Deadline Hollywood.com.

The anthology series, created by novelist Nic Pizzolatto, aired only 8 episodes and  became an instant critical darling, its acclaim dovetailing nicely with McConaughey’s Oscar campaign for “Dallas Buyers Club.”

“True Detective” has been renewed for a second season and will have a new cast as well as a new locale for its next mystery. Casting and crew appointments have yet to be announced.
