KELLY KIP OUT OF CARTER ‘CAP

Multiple track record holder Kelly Kip, winner of the Bold Ruler Handicap in his last start, was sent to a veterinary clinic in New Jersey for treatment of an infected hock. He would have been the starting highweight in the Grade 1 Carter Handicap on Sunday at 122 pounds. Probable starting highweight now looks to be Affirmed Success at 119.

Jockeys John Velazquez won three races on the card while Aaron Gryder and Joe Bravo each won two. Trainer Bill Anderson won two races.

1ST RACE – First-time starter Sai Gone was much the best in state-bred maiden event. Favored Eve’s Obligation chased the pace but looked uncomfortable switching leads in the stretch. With her pounding running style she could have been tired, or maybe wear and tear is getting to her. Worlsigold bore in at start slightly bothering Angel of My Dreams.

2ND RACE – El D’Oro Diablo was ready to run from the get-go. She acted up in gate, causing John Velazquez to dismount for a bit. She bore in at the start, then rushed up to the lead with Velazquez trying to restrain her with everything he had. After the quarter in 22 1/5, Velazquez basically hand rode her to the wire despite Black Tiger and Marisa Mia gaining on her near the finish. R B Millbrook ran greenly around turn and should improve next time out.

3RD RACE – Peak’s Sweep’s left side must be full of bumps and bruises after this race. Sweet Talkin Devil bore out at the start, bumping Peak’s Sweep. Then at the top of the stretch, My American Dream bulled his way through a hole, bumping Peak’s Sweep hard three times in the process. He lost interest afterwards and finished fifth.

5TH RACE – I Do looked to have dead aim on favored Salomay and 13-1 Tia’s Halo in the stretch drive. But she could do no better than third. After the race, Richard Migliore took off his last mount of the day. Turns out he re-aggravated an old shoulder injury and it popped out of the socket. He went to see his doctor for further examination and his status for today is uncertain.

9TH RACE – Hedge Ratio is Hip #21 at the Belmont Horses of Racing Age Sale on Tuesday at Belmont Park. Gary Sciacca tried getting one last victory out of her before the sale and she may have been the best in the race. She was headstrong after she broke from the gate and Velazquez had to work hard to control her. Then she was interfered with when Waki Woman slightly blew the clubhouse turn. She took the lead, but Vicarious Sara came with a powerful run to blow by her in the stretch.
