De Blasio: I love Liam Neeson despite carriage horse position

Mayor de Blasio says he’s a fan of Liam Neeson, even if the actor thinks Hizzoner’s a wimp.

“I am a Liam Neeson fan. I am,” de Blasio said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program Monday — a day after Neeson said the mayor “should have manned up” and joined him for a Manhattan stables tour amid an ongoing war over the city’s carriage horses.

But “horses in the streets of the city today don’t make sense,’’ de Blasio still insisted.

“They’ve been banned in cities all over the world. We’re going to fix it. But I will spend time with Liam Neeson. He’s a great actor.”

Neeson’s reps didn’t respond to requests for comment.

The “Schindler’s List’’ star, who backs the carriage business, had invited de Blasio and the City Council to visit the Clinton Park Stables on West 52nd Street with him Sunday.

When the mayor failed to show, Neeson fumed, “He should have manned up and come. I’m disappointed he’s not here.’’ Still, Neeson added, “I’m looking forward to meeting him to discuss the issue.’’

The Irish actor said Sunday that horse-drawn carriages — which animal-rights activists oppose — are “a connection with our past. It’s a connection with our history.’’
