Canadiens sticking with rookie goaltender Tokarski

The Canadiens are going to stay with 24-year-old rookie goaltender Dustin Tokarski after he made his NHL postseason debut in Game 2.

Coach Michel Therrien confirmed the decision in Montreal on Wednesday before his team left for New York, but did not elaborate on it. After losing starter Carey Price to a right-knee injury incurred in a Game 1 collision with Chris Kreider, Therrien went with Tokarski instead of regular backup Peter Budaj.

Tokarski, who came into the game with 10 career NHL appearances, played admirably in the Blueshirts’ 3-1 win.

“He did really well,” Therrien said after the game. “We’re pleased with our decision.”
