Undercover cops brought down two big-time gun traffickers in separate cases after the thugs sold them an arsenal of 39 illegal firearms in broad daylight, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said.
Javon Burgess, 36, allegedly sold cops 26 guns — including a Tec-9 assault weapon and several other semi-automatic pistols — for roughly $1,000 near spots like the Bronx Zoo and various fast food parking lots between February and September 2013.
“One of the sales took place in a parking lot of a McDonald’s where he sold undercover officers six firearms while customers waited on line for food,” Bratton said.
Burgess — or “Black,” as he’s known on the streets — would deliver the stolen guns to New York from South Carolina after cops wired him cash, according to an indictment filed by Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance.
Five of the guns were defaced.
In a separate but similar case, undercover cops busted Paul “Gangsta” Lee, 24, for selling 13 firearms between May and December 2013, including a sawed-off shotgun and an AP-9 assault weapon.
The guns were sold in either Co-op City in the Bronx or Harlem and ranged in price from $550 to $900.
“These are guns that won’t be used to kill a neighbor or child and won’t be used to point at a police officer,” Vance said.
Both men have been charged with several counts of criminal sale and possession of firearms.
