Parnell: I’m raring to go

MONTREAL — Bobby Parnell says it was mission accomplished in spring training.

Though the Mets closer didn’t unleash his signature high-90s heat all spring, he says his main objective was rounding into pitching shape after undergoing surgery last September to repair a herniated disk in his neck.

The right-hander entered camp concerned about his health, but those fears have disappeared. Now he’s hoping to add the finishing touches.

“The velocity is not there yet — we’ve still got a little work to do,” Parnell said before the Mets’ 2-0 loss to the Blue Jays in an exhibition game on Saturday. “I don’t want to peak in spring training anyway, so that is part of the game plan.”

Parnell on Friday allowed three hits in the ninth inning, including a game-ending RBI single. He finished the spring 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA in seven appearances.

“I had a lot of adrenaline [Friday], I felt like the ball was coming out good and I feel good now,” Parnell said. “So I think everything is going in the right direction.”

Kyle Farnsworth was re-assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas, all but ensuring Gonzalez Germen of the final spot in the Mets bullpen. Farnsworth was 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA in nine appearances this spring.

The two exhibition games at Olympic Stadium drew a combined 96,350 fans, as Montreal attempted to show its worthiness for a team — such as the Rays or Athletics — that might want to relocate.

“It was amazing the amount of people in the community that were talking about it who weren’t even here for these two games,” Curtis Granderson said. “It was amazing to get a chance to see it and be a part of it.”

The Mets have a limited supply of standing room only tickets for Monday’s opener at Citi Field against the Nationals. The tickets cost $35 and are on sale at Mets.com/Tickets or by calling (718) 507-TIXX.
