Bank robber used misspelled note demanding $23K: DA

A Brooklyn bandit who used a misspelled note to demand $23,000 from four banks has been indicted for the rash of robberies, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Michael Rodriguez, 33, handed bank tellers a handwritten note demanding money and threatening that he had a gun in the four holdups between March 16 and March 26, according to the Brooklyn district attorney.

Rodriguez didn’t speak during the robberies, and the notes he used were all written in the same ink on the same kind of paper with the same wording and misspellings — and the note used in the fourth robbery was found in his car, prosecutors said.

“We simply will not allow anyone to rob our banks in broad daylight and terrorize bank tellers in the process,” said Brooklyn DA Ken Thompson. “We will hold the defendant accountable for this bank-robbery spree.”

Rodriguez struck first at Flushing Bank in Borough Park on March 16, where he allegedly took off with $5,761. His biggest haul was $16,943 from a Flushing Bank in Bay Ridge on March 21, prosecutors said.

Rodriguez was slapped with charges including grand larceny and robbery.
