Ray Romano joins HBO’s 70s-era rock drama pilot

So this post-“Every-body Loves Raymond” career is going pretty well for its star, Ray Romano. Actually, it’s going great.

Following his dramatic turn on NBC’s “Parenthood,” Romano has landed a co-starring role in HBO’s rock ‘n’ roll drama pilot alongside Bobby Cannavale (“Boardwalk Empire”).

Martin Scorsese is directing the project, which is set in the hedonistic music business of 1970s New York.

Romano will play Zak Yankovich, the confidante and right-hand-man of record executive Richie Finestra (Cannavale), who is trying to resurrect his label and find the next new sound as punk and disco are taking over.

The pilot co-stars Olivia Wilde and is set to film this summer. Scorsese is also executive-producing with Mick Jagger and co-writers Terence Winter (“Boardwalk Empire”) and George Mastras (“Breaking Bad”).

Romano starrred on “Raymond” for nine seasons. His recent credits include co-creating and starring in the TNT drama “Men of a Certain Age.”
