MTA’s top cop being pushed out

The MTA’s director of security is being given the boot, The Post has learned.

Douglas Zeigler, 66, who has held the job since January 2011, is expected to step down soon, sources said.

Zeigler, who spent 37 years at the NYPD, coordinated security for the MTA with the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, the National Guard, NYPD and State Police, while overseeing the MTA Police Department.

Zeigler’s departure had nothing to do with the MTA Police response during the Dec. 1 Metro-North derailment, sources insist.

“It’s something that’s been under discussion,” an insider said

Zeigler, who has a law degree from New York Law School and a master’s degree from John Jay College, was hired under Jay Walder, who served as the MTA’s chairman and CEO before he was replaced by Joe Lhota.

Lhota was replaced by current MTA boss Thomas Prendergast.

A leading candidate to replace Zeigler is ex-NYPD Transit Bureau Chief Ray Diaz, who previously served in that role.
