‘MAN OF STEEL’ CURSE STRIKES AGAIN

Dana Reeve is the latest victim of the eerie Curse of Superman.

A bizarre string of tragic luck has followed people associated with Superman since he first appeared on the screen.

Reeve’s husband, Christopher, of course, played Superman in four of the movies from 1978 to 1987, and was paralyzed when he fell from a horse in 1995. He died of a heart attack in 2004.

Margot Kidder, who played love interest Lois Lane, went bankrupt after a car crash in 1990 stopped her from working. She had a mental breakdown in 1996, which led her to shave her head and falsely tell Los Angeles cops that she had been abducted when they found her cowering in a bush. Another car accident in 2002 broke her pelvis.

Richard Pryor, who died this past December, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis three years after appearing as a computer-hacking criminal in 1983’s “Superman III.”

In the 1950s, George Reeves played Clark Kent and his alter ego in TV’s “The Adventures of Superman.”

He was found shot in the head in his Hollywood home in 1959. There is still controversy whether it was murder or suicide.

A 1940s Superman, Kirk Alyn, famously said, “Playing Superman ruined my career and I’m bitter about the whole thing. I couldn’t get another job in Hollywood.”

The creators of Superman in 1938, two 17-year-old kids named Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel, fared no better.

After creating the most popular superhero of all time, they were paid about $100,000 total for their work, and fired when they sought a raise.
