Israeli commandos caught on tape in daring rescue

This is the moment commandos, dangling unseen above an apartment balcony, made their move to rescue a four-year-old girl.

The situation was uncertain: All they knew was that an unsettled man had barricaded himself in the top-floor flat with a young child.

How they made their move was vital. They had to get in fast. They had to do it by surprise.

Just how the raid went was caught on camera.

The operation on a high-rise apartment in Ashkelon began after reports the girl’s uncle had barricaded himself inside her parents’ house.

Two hours of police negotiations produced no discernible progress.

The anti-terror YAMM squad was sent in – abseiling down the side of the building to gain access to the top-floor balcony and then the apartment behind it.

Police later said the man was determined to be suffering a mental illness and had not threatened the girl.
