Two deer bring Staten Island Expressway to a rush-hour halt

A pair of wayward deer caused complete chaos on the Staten Island Expressway smack in the middle of the morning rush on Thursday.

The duo jumped 20 feet to get down to the major roadway near the toll plaza of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge around 9 a.m., with one suffering serious injuries from the fall that later killed it.

The other suffered a broken leg, but scrambled around the highway — bringing traffic to a complete standstill until NYPD Emergency Services cops could shoot it with a tranquilizer gun.

Once subdued, the deer’s legs were bound and it was turned over to Animal Care and Control.

The rescue brought traffic to a halt in both directions for about 10-15 minutes, according to an MTA spokeswoman.
