A Staten Island man accused of sexually abusing a young female relative killed himself inside his home, police said.
Cops went to the Park Drive North house to bring the man, 67, in for questioning Friday morning when they discovered that he had hanged himself, authorities said.
A relative had alerted police to the alleged abuse, which was described as spanning years according to a police source.
One longtime neighbor said the man was a father of three who moved to the quiet neighborhood more than three decades ago.
The man was widowed years ago when his wife died of cancer.
“I’m shocked,” said the resident, who did not want to give his name. “No one had any reason to think something wasn’t right.”
The man’s family declined to comment.
