A ‘Good’ year

The “Good Morning America” crew has a lot to smile about.

Their ABC morning show, which airs live from Times Square, has now been number one in total viewers for exactly one year — since toppling NBC’s “Today Show” last August.

Last week, “GMA” — anchored by Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion, Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott — averaged 5.1 million viewers, beating second-place “Today” by 800,000 total viewers (and third-place “CBS This Morning” by a whopping 2.5 million viewers).

“GMA” also beat “Today” in the coveted news demo of adults 25-54.

(“Today” has beaten “GMA” in that demo several times over the past year.)

“GMA” senior executive producer Tom Cibrowski thanked his staff yesterday by marking the occasion of its year-long streak.

“It is an amazing accomplishment and a fantastic ride,” he said. “We are also extremely grateful to the viewers who tune in every morning, and now it’s up to us to keep going. We are only just beginning.”

“Today” — now anchored by Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker and Natalie Morales — had been TV’s top-rated morning show for 16 consecutive years until it was (narrowly) overtaken by “GMA” in April 2012 by a 13,000-viewer margin.

“GMA” began its year-long winning streak the week of Aug. 13, 2012.
