NYPD stakeout detective admits to stealing $6K in fraud scam

A veteran NYPD detective has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $6,000 from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office — where he had headed a wiretap and surveillance squad.

Michael Bazerman, who had 18 years on the force, copped to misdemeanor official misconduct, forfeited his $70,000-a-year pension and medical benefits worth an estimated $3 million, and must make full restitution.

“The defendant was an NYPD detective. He certainly should have known better,” said Bronx Assistant DA Peter Kennedy, who handled the case after the Manhattan DA’s Office recused itself.

The Staten Island father of two had faced up to seven years in prison on more than 300 counts of grand larceny, forgery and other charges for submitting bogus expense reports to the DA’s office from 2009 to 2011.

Bazerman, 40, admitted to scamming $5,811.93 through fraudulent invoices at his Aug. 19 court appearance before Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Laura Ward.

Bazerman told The Post this week the expenses were legitimate and he took the deal only to avoid jail.

“I bought antennas for DA [Cy] Vance’s truck, my captain’s truck. I bought headphones. I had cables, an equalizer,” he said.

The Manhattan DA’s office and NYPD declined to comment.
