Giants report card

OFFENSE

Eli Manning was sacked seven times, the Giants averaged 3.8 yards per carry, Henry Hynoski might have been lost for the season, Hakeem Nicks didn’t have a catch and they were shut out. Definition of a train wreck.

GRADE: F

DEFENSE

The numbers were ugly and there’s still no pass rush, but this group actually held up well for a half with zero help from the offense. Aaron Ross’ interception of a Cam Newton sideline throw was the Giants’ lone highlight all day.

GRADE: D

SPECIAL TEAMS

Josh Brown’s shank of a 38-yard field goal try with the Giants still in it in the first half was an emotional letdown, but Steve Weatherford’s punting was noticeably improved, they kept Carolina return star Ted Ginn under wraps and also recovered a fumbled punt.

GRADE: C+

COACHING

It’s tough to know if the gameplan was sound because the Giants, at least on offense, were swamped virtually from the opening snap. But there’s no denying Tom Coughlin’s team was emotionally flat with perhaps the entire season on the line. Perplexing.
