Pitt transfer Moore cleared for Rutgers

Eddie Jordan’s roster is rounding into form, and just in time, with Rutgers’ official basketball practices slated to begin Friday.

J.J. Moore, a Pittsburgh transfer, received a legislative relief waiver on Thursday, the school announced, making the Brentwood, L.I. product eligible immediately. On the heels of Iowa State transfer Kerwin Okoro also receiving a waiver, Rutgers now has a 12-man roster, after five players transferred in the wake of the firing of head coach Mike Rice and the abuse scandal.

“It’s a tremendous opportunity to play my senior season here at Rutgers,” Moore said in a statement. “This decision is a blessing for me and my family.”

A sharpshooting forward, Moore was the Panthers’ leading scorer off the bench last season, averaging eight points and three rebounds in 33 games. He likely will start immediately in the frontcourt alongside junior Kadeem Jack and senior Wally Judge.

“From the moment J.J. stepped on campus, he brought leadership and experience to our program,” Jordan said. “I greatly admire his competitive spirit.”

Rutgers is still waiting on the eligibility status of touted freshman forward Junior Etou of Bishop O’Connell in Virginia. He is reportedly dealing with amateur issues.
