Lady Gaga kills it in new lyric video for ‘Aura’

Lady Gaga’s new lyric video for her song “Aura” is really more of an extended commercial for this Friday’s “Machete Kills,” in which she has a role, than anything else. But when that means Sofia Vergara exclaiming “Pucker up, lover boy!” as she exposes a gun bra – we’ll take it.

The hypnotically bizarre track first leaked back in the beginning of August, and was rumored by many to be called the more controversial title, “Burqa.” With lyrics like “Do you want to see the girl who lives behind the aura?” it’s hard not to think about how different the song would be with “burqa” subbed for “aura.” Nevertheless, it’s refreshing to hear Gaga singing about something other than fame, paparazzi and applause.

Robert Rodriguez, who directed Gaga in “Machete Kills,” helmed the video, which mashes up graphic design images with clips from his movie, although the song isn’t featured in his film. Explosions abound, interspersed with Gaga in lethal bombshell mode, but the most memorable moment comes when Gaga synthetically laughs, “Ha ha ha ha ha” over a scene of Charlie Sheen in the movie saying, “This is the president.”

It’s unclear whether the song is the official single to follow “Applause,” leading to the release of her album, “ARTPOP,” out November 11. It seems more likely that the song will serve only as a promo track, though Mother Monster did open her iTunes Festival set with the song last month. For a far more Gaga-esque experience, skip the lyric video and head to iTunes for the energetic live performance.
