He just wanted to make a point.
State Homeland Security chief Jerry Hauer used a laser device attached to his handgun as a pointer during a meeting with visiting Swedish officials.
Hauer said he used the gun laser to guide visitors to areas on a map damaged by Hurricane Sandy simply because it was handy.
The Albany Times Union, which first reported the incident Monday, said some of the visitors were shaken when the laser tracked across one of their heads during the Oct. 24 presentation.
Hauer told The Post that he used the device from his empty B&K 200 handgun because he didn’t see any other pointer nearby.
“In the end, I used the laser gun. Was it the smartest thing in the world do? Absolutely not,” Hauer said.
But he disputed assertions that he pointed the laser over someone’s head.
“No one in the room was rattled. The gun was never aimed at anyone,” he said. “I would never point an empty firearm at anyone, let alone a loaded gun. I was pointing directly at the wall. The gun was never aimed at anyone.”
