AMAZIN’S PLAY WAITING GAME … AND LOSE

Here’s the excuse the Mets used about why they waited until 7:20 p.m. to postpone their game with the Orioles at Shea last night.

“The forecast all during the day was that the rain was supposed to stop at around 7 o’clock,” Met media-relations head Jay Horwitz said. “After 7 o’clock, there would be huge breaks where there wouldn’t be any rain. As we got closer to 7 o’clock, the periods of no rain got less and less. As soon as we were certain that there wouldn’t be any ‘window,’ we called it as soon as we could.”

The game was rescheduled for tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. Although the Mets wanted to see the game go on, they apparently were almost the only ones. There were fewer than 1,000 people (estimated) who actually showed up.
