Hilary Duff, “With Love” (Castillo remix)

Cinematic teen queen Duff finds her dance groove on this terrific sexy slink off her “Dignity” disc. Its layered production makes it the kind of track that gets better with plenty of volume and some room to shimmy-shake.

Fountains of Wayne, “Someone To Love”

The guys who made us lust for “Stacy’s Mom” turn in pop perfection again with this bouncy song of lost love in the big city. While there isn’t a happy ending, you don’t mind that the boy doesn’t get the girl, because she’s the kind of chick who swipes your cab in the rain. Look for the video, which is set to star Demetri Martin of “The Daily Show” as Seth.

Melora Creager, “Sky Is Falling”

Deep, rumbling cello strains

meld with poppy-sounding lyrics about the end of the world on this track off “Catastrophe,” the solo album from the brains behind Rasputina, Marilyn Manson’s favorite cello chamber-rock trio. Catch the whole band Friday at Gramercy Theater.

Bleed the Dream, “Closer”

The lead single off the Los Angeles band’s sophomore album, “Killer Inside,” (out April 10) is much harder than the rest of the album. But it’s a prime example of how they’ve ditched the happy-go-lucky screamo sound of their previous work for darker rock anthems, largely because of a new lead singer.

The Slackers, “Propaganda”

Green Day’s “American Idiot” may be the MySpace generation’s default protest album, but hometown ska revivalists the Slackers have injected lots of politics into this track off their album “Peculiar.” They’re playing The Hook in Brooklyn’s Red Hook on April 14.
