COPS ‘BEAT’ FIREFIGHTER

Two off-duty NYPD cops were busted yesterday for beating and nearly blinding a Long Island firefighter in street brawl sparked by an “inappropriate remark” made about the victim’s sister, authorities said yesterday.

Brian McNamara, 32, of Long Beach, was viciously kicked and punched outside of a row of bars on West Beech Street, near Virginia Avenue, in Long Beach early Saturday morning, while his 22-year-old sister screamed at his attackers to stop, authorities said.

Douglas Rome, 25, and Jason Ragoo, 26, both assigned to the anti-crime unit of the 101st Precinct in Far Rockaway, surrendered yesterday and were charged with assault. A third man, who sources said may also be a cop, is still being sought.

McNamara, a career Long Beach firefighter, has been told he might lose his sight, said Charles Theofan, Long Beach’s city manager.

“This was an horrific beating,” Theofan said. “Not only did they punch and kick him over and over again, when he got up and ran, they chased him and beat and kicked him again.”

NYPD sources said the victim initially didn’t want to press charges, but later changed his mind.
