ABC APPEALS RULING

ABC News is appealing an upstate New York judge’s ruling that will push forward a case against the news organization and its star anchor, Diane Sawyer.

The case centers on a “Primetime” segment called “Step Families in Crisis” that was filmed in 2002 and 2003 but aired in 2006. On the show, Kyle Nelson, then just 15 years old, is seen being beaten by her father, Joe Nelson.

Wednesday, New York State Supreme Court Judge James Dawson shot down a motion by ABC lawyers to dismiss the case, which now appears headed for trial.

ABC is appealing the ruling.

Kyle Nelson, now 20, is suing her father, stepmother, Lynn Nelson, the network, Sawyer and three psychologists who appeared on the show, claiming negligence and gross negligence.
