THE BABYSITTERS

A high school student baby-sitting for a married exec (John Leguizamo) has an affair with him and accepts the guilt money he gives her after each sexual encounter. She gets the idea to become a hooker and start an underage prostitution ring.

The movie’s characters and tone veer wildly; the girl alternately seems emotionally attached to the married man and then a calculating businesswoman. At times, it seems to be aiming for raunchy satire like “Risky Business,” but the movie undercuts that by being narrated in the mournful, wounded voice of “The Virgin Suicides.”

I’d call it a depressing soft-core porn flick, but that overstates its titillation factor. Mainly it’s just icky.

Running time: 90 minutes. Rated R (disturbing strong sexual content, language and some drug use, all involving teens). At the Empire, the 62nd & Broadway, the Village East.
