A 13-year-old kid collapsed while playing basketball outside a Queens school and died after going into apparent cardiac arrest, officials said yesterday.
Alhaarith Atthahabi, of Woodhaven, was shooting hoops in the schoolyard at JHS 210 in Ozone Park at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday when he collapsed.
“He touched his chest and dropped to the floor,” said his 35-year-old mom, Aaishah Francis. “His heart did not start back. He never regained consciousness.”
Her son had no previous known health conditions, she said.
Fellow students said the eighth-grader – known as Al – was an avid basketball player and a good kid.
In a statement, the school said the entire community “is saddened by the loss, and our hearts go out to the family.”
