AGASSI-FEDERER IN WORKS

Negotiations are under way to bring Roger Federer and retired Andre Agassi together for an exhibition showdown at the Garden next March between two of tennis’ biggest names, a person familiar with the situation told The Post.

Agassi, who hung up his racket after losing in the third round of the 2006 Open, announced this week he will play his first post-retirement match in October in the Outback Legends Tour in Surprise, Ariz. Agassi is 38.

The Garden is trying to bring tennis back every March in a novel way and recapture the magic from the Federer-Pete Sampras bout one year ago that drew 19,000. The Garden tennis exhibition two weeks ago, with four top women, including the Williams’ sisters, playing a mini-tournament didn’t go as smashingly. The Garden did not announce attendance figures, but a source claimed it was below 10,000.
