MLB: Paulino traded . . . again

Catcher Ronny Paulino was traded yesterday for the second time in 24 hours and the third time since December, and he’s now with the Marlins.

The Giants sent Paulino to Florida for minor-league right-hander Hector Correa. The deal was announced yesterday after Paulino was traded Friday night to the Giants from the Phillies for left-handed pitcher Jack Taschner.

* Indians general manager Mark Shapiro would not comment on reports that he told AL Cy Young winner Cliff Lee he wouldn’t negotiate a contract extension for the left-hander.

WOMEN’S NCAA: Coleman’s 42 leads Terps

In Raleigh, N.C., Marissa Coleman scored a career-high 42 points, including the go-ahead basket with 27.9 seconds left, and Maryland rallied from 18 down to beat Vanderbilt 78-74.

* Angel McCoughtry had 22 points and 12 rebounds to help Louisville beat Baylor 56-39 in the NCAA tournament’s round of 16.

* In Berkeley, Calif., Alison Lacey’s 3-pointer from the top of the key with 23 seconds remaining capped a furious comeback, leading fourth-seeded Iowa State to a 69-68 victory over ninth-seeded Michigan State.

SOCCER: U.S. ties El Salvador in qualifier

In San Salvador, El Salvador, Jozy Altidore started the comeback in the 77th minute and Frankie Hejduk scored the tying goal in the 88th as the United States rallied for a 2-2 draw at El Salvador in a World Cup qualifier.

* David Beckham broke England’s appearance record for a non-goalkeeper and set up a goal with a trademark cross in a 4-0 exhibition victory over Slovakia.

Beckham entered his 109th game at the start of the second half at Wembley Stadium, surpassing the mark he shared with former England captain Bobby Moore.

TENNIS: Serena, Venus advance at Sony

In Key Biscayne, Fla., Serena Williams has taken the first step in her bid for a record sixth Key Biscayne title. The top-ranked Williams won her opening match at the Sony Ericsson Open, beating Alexa Glatch.

Williams needed barely an hour to move into the third round. Williams is 48-5 at Key Biscayne, with one loss since 2001 — to her sister Venus, who also won her opening match, beating Shahar Peer.

NCAA HOCKEY: BU routs Ohio State

Jason Lawrence and Zach Cohen each scored twice, and Matt Gilroy had a career-high four assists in top-seeded Boston University’s 8-3 victory over Ohio State in the NCAA hockey Northeast Regional.

* In Grand Rapids, Mich., Evan Barlow scored with 17.2 seconds left to give Cornell a 3-2 victory over Northeastern in the NCAA hockey Midwest Regional. . . . Tyler Scofield had two goals and an assist, and Matt Dalton made 34 saves to help Bemidji State beat top-seeded Notre Dame 5-1.

* In Manchester, N.H., Peter LeBlanc scored 45 seconds into overtime to give third-seeded New Hampshire a 6-5 comeback victory over North Dakota. . . . In Bridgeport, Conn., Dan Lawson scored at 15:59 of the second overtime to give Vermont a 3-2 victory over Air Force.

ETC.: Titans top first-place Bandits

The New York Titans professional Indoor Lacrosse team beat the first-place Buffalo Bandits 11-9 last night in Buffalo. The Titans (7-5) were led by Casey Powell and Brendan Mundorf who each registered three goals.

* Wizards guard Mike James is out for the season after breaking his right pinkie in practice. . . .. Guard Stephen Jackson will undergo surgery next week to remove a bone fragment in his left big toe and the Warriors’ leading scorer is expected to miss the rest of the season.

* The lacrosse teams from Virginia and Maryland did one better than the basketball teams from Syracuse and Connecticut. Brian Carroll‘s goal a minute into the seventh overtime lifted the top-ranked Cavaliers to a 10-9 victory over the Terrapins in the longest Division I men’s lacrosse game in NCAA history.
