Woodson could be fit for Pistons opening

Last time Mike Woodson got dismissed as head coach, by Atlanta, he was unable to immediately land another head job. He instead joined the Knicks as Mike D’Antoni’s defensive assistant for the 2012 lockout season, getting promoted to the head job when D’Antoni resigned with 24 games left in the season.

While Woodson could take next season off as he’s due $3.4 million on the final year of his contract, he may investigate current vacancies, specifically the one in Detroit.

According to a source, before taking the job with D’Antoni, Woodson finished runner-up to Lawrence Frank during the Pistons’ coaching search in 2011-12. Woodson won a title on Larry Brown’s Detroit staff in 2004 and his .580 winning percentage in New York is a selling point.

Woodson also interviewed that summer with Minnesota, losing out to Rick Adelman, who retired Monday, theoretically giving Woodson another crack to coach the Timberwolves. There also has been talk Woodson could eventually be interested in returning to his alma mater, Indiana, but there’s no expected vacancy.

After firing his longtime agents, Joe and Keith Glass, two years ago, Woodson is now represented by Creative Artists Agency. It was believed Knicks owner James Dolan forced Woodson to fire the Glasses, who also represented Larry Brown, because of their legal conflict with Glass over Brown’s contract.

However, Keith Glass, still disappointed in Woodson, said he isn’t sure if Woodson worked alone and wasn’t forced into it by the Knicks. Joe Glass passed away soon after the firing.

“It might have been more disloyalty,” Keith Glass told The Post. “I hate to see anyone get fired, you’re not happy to see anyone lose their job, but I still just wish my father was still around to see it.”
