Guitar shop owner indicted in girlfriend killing

A troubled former East Village guitar shop owner was indicted Thursday for slashing his girlfriend to death days after being released from Bellevue Hospital’s psych ward.

Dennis Guglielmo, 69, is accused of attacking his doting beau, Alice Birnbaum, with an ax and knife inside his Downing Street pad May 1.

His defense lawyer Adam Freedman waived his appearance today in Manhattan Criminal Court. He’s being held at Bellevue pending the results of a psych exam.

“He’s doing well under the circumstances,” said Freedman.

Guglielmo had voluntarily checked himself into the psychiatric facility for paranoia and an acute lack of sleep shortly before the brutal stabbing, sources told The Post. And Birnbaum was the one responsible for encouraging staffers to discharge him, sources said. It’s unclear what triggered his rage.

The music lover grew up in the East Village and was a neighborhood fixture who claimed to have hung out with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, according to a pal.

He’s due back in court June 30th.
