Rex: Jets mess will be resolved

Rex Ryan remains optimistic that Darrelle Revis and the Jets will reach contract peace between now and training camp.

“I think Darrelle Revis will be a Jet for a long time,” the coach told The Post. “That’s my gut feeling.”

Why is that?

“Like I say, I feel the organization’s commitment to Darrelle I think is strong,” Ryan said. “They want Darrelle to be here for a long time, and I think Darrelle wants to be a Jet for a long time. That’s how I feel.”

Ryan was “disappointed” that Revis, making a statement that he has been insulted by the Jets’ recent contract-extension proposals, opted out of the end of the morning practice yesterday at Jets minicamp while Ryan had to learn about it from the media.

“If he’s pulling a fast one on us, then he’s pulling a fast one on us,” Ryan said. Indeed, Ryan didn’t take what Revis termed “lightheadedness” lightheartedly at first.

“It bothers me that you guys would know something before I would,” Ryan told The Post. “But Darrelle is a man. If he says something to somebody — our trainers, myself, a coach, whatever — then I’m gonna believe him.

“I’ll believe any player. If he doesn’t feel right, if he doesn’t want to go in, doesn’t feel

like maybe something’s not right … if whatever’s in the back of his mind and he doesn’t feel right, then I don’t want him out there anyway.

“And I’m gonna let him know that.”

Ryan, in many respects, is a security blanket for the organization because every Jet wants to play for him.

“What really happens is that they want to play for each other,” Ryan said. “And maybe I’m a coach that believes in building each other up and all that, maybe provides that kind of environment.

“They don’t play for me, they play for each other, and I think that’s what it is.”

Ryan is a natural at handling football players, plain and simple. It can only help in this unsettling situation.

“I know Darrelle,” he said. “I know the capacity he has of playing the game. I know that the team wants Darrelle here, not just in the short term, but the long term. So that’s why I think he’ll play. I think he’ll be here.”
